Pardon Set to End for Animals at Macon-Bibb Shelter Tuesday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Tuesday afternoon, a pardon to keep healthy animals from being put down at Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare is set to expire.

The two-week pardon is set to end at 4:30.

Non-profit group Paws for Hope and Faith had the shelter sign a pardon back on January 9th, with a goal of getting all the healthy animals out before Tuesday’s deadline.

The group held an adoption event this weekend, where three of the animals were adopted and one was picked up by a foster family.

We reached out to the shelter’s director, Sarah Tenon, on Monday for a count of the animals left to be adopted, but our calls weren’t returned.

However, Shane Smith with Paws for Hope and Faith says at his last count, there were still more than 20 animals whose time could run out on Tuesday.

“These animals really need your help,” says Smith.  “They’re innoncent; they didn’t do anything to be where they’re at, and they just need a chance.  If you’ve thought about adopting, come to the shelter.”

Smith says his organization has had people from as far away as Canada step up and adopt some of these animals, and he’ll do the best he can to get the rest out before Tuesday’s deadline.
