Authorities confirmed that dozens of people were injured in the incident, including several children. More than two dozen were hospitalized, at least two of them with serious injuries. Emergency crews worked urgently to rescue several individuals trapped beneath the vehicle, while approximately 20 others were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
Police described the collision as an “isolated incident” and said they are not treating it as terrorism. Officials urged the public to avoid speculation as the investigation continues. A 53-year-old British man, believed to be the driver, was arrested at the scene. Police stated they are not looking for any additional suspects.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “appalling,” and thanked first responders for their swift and courageous response. Liverpool FC released a statement following the incident, saying the club is in direct contact with law enforcement and “will continue to offer its full support to emergency services and local authorities.”
