Pack of Wild Dogs Terrorizing Neighborhood, Animal Control Trying to Catch Pack

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A pack of wild dogs is terrorizing a neighborhood.

Residents living in the Ingleside area say they have seen four or five dogs roaming the streets in their community. They say the pack has killed their pets and now they are worried the dogs could hurt their children.

“Just the other night we awoke to what sounded like a scream.”

Brian Leigh lives off Ingleside Avenue in Macon. He says he jumped out of bed Saturday night, checked his front yard and saw a group of stray dogs and a dead cat in front of his tree.

“I went outside, turned on the lights and there was four dogs that looked wild, just kind of wandering off my territory,” Leigh said. “I chased them off.”

This wasn’t the first time the pack popped up in the neighborhood. Leigh and his neighbors called animal control on Friday when another cat turned up dead in a nearby neighborhood but trucks did not start patrolling the streets until Monday morning.

“It’s hard to find these kind of dogs when they’re living out,” Steve Layson, Interim Director of Macon Animal Control, said. “We don’t know where they’re living and to trap them. We don’t have anybody that is certified to shoot the dart guns so that makes it even harder.”

Residents say the dogs are vicious animals.

“If they’re capable of doing this to a cat, will they do this to a child or person?” Leigh said.

The Ingleside community is concerned about its safety. Animal control says its doing everything it can to catch the pack.

“It’s going to be a challenge to catch them but we will catch them,” Layson said. “It’s a priority. We will make sure the neighborhoods safe of these animals.”

“Until the incident is resolved, I don’t know how comfortable I’m going to be, especially leaving kids outside unsupervised. It could happen so quickly, you just never know,” Leigh said.

Macon Animal Control is asking everyone to keep an eye out for the pack. If you see the dogs, call (478) 751-9200.
