Out of Stock: Local Stores Running Low on Guns and Ammunition

BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Out of stock signs hang in a lot of local pawn shops and gun stores as sales for weapons and ammunition continue to surge.

Pawn Smart in Byron only has a dozen guns left and very little ammunition, and all future merchandise is on back order. For owner David Hawkins, the biggest scare is the uncertainty of whether new guns will ever be available.

“They’re slowly coming in, but there not giving us any hope of being like it was before the shootings,” Hawkins said, “and it’s all taking a lot longer to get them.”

Hawkins said he saw a large spike in sales shortly after the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. Most of the shoppers were looking for assault rifles.
