One Year Later: Family Still Searching for Answers in Shar’bora Daniels Death

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Lori Daniels keeps the letter from the woman who has her daughter’s heart on a wall near 18-year-old Shar’bora’s graduation picture.

“Please believe me when I tell you that your daughter was an angel and she is on my shoulder,” she reads, “I hold her in my heart and thoughts and her loving heart still beats… I promise to take good care of her.”

Those words remind Lori Daniels that a part of her step-daughter is still here on earth because she was an organ donor, but for Lori those words also bring up mixed emotions.

“I’m happy that she got to live, I just hate that it was at the expense of our daughter,” said Lori.

One year ago a bullet tore through the Daniels family home at 4765 Brookhaven Road just after 12am. It killed Shar’bora while she was playing video games with her brother, and sent Bibb County investigators on a hunt for a possible drive by shooter.

Captain Mike Smallwood says other than neighbors saying they heard a car speeding down the street that night, the only solid lead investigators have is the bullet.

“Oh it’s frustrating to know somebody out there knows and they’re just not coming forward. They’re just not telling anybody,” said Smallwood.

It’s frustrating for Lori too, who says, questions about her daughter’s death constantly consume her thoughts.

“I don’t think you get peace cause I mean, I think about it everyday like it was yesterday… especially at night when I’m going to bed and you know your mind is racing. That’s the first thing that comes to mind,” said Lori.

She also thinks about the young woman Shar’Bora wanted to be. She had plans to attend Clark Atlanta University to study fashion last fall.

“She would have been 19, you know, just starting the beginning of her life,” said Lori.

Lori says her family has plans to meet the woman who has Shar’bora’s heart soon.

The Daniels and investigators are asking you to come forward if you have information. If you were in the area, and you saw or heard anything, or if you know who’s responsible call Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME. Calls to Crimestoppers can remain anonymous, and if your tip leads to an arrest you can get a reward.
