One suspect arrested, one on the run after downtown Macon robbery

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies arrested one suspect and are searching for another after an armed robbery took place in downtown Macon.

According to a news release, the victim was approached by two men in an alley after leaving a local bar. The two suspects, one carrying a handgun, demanded money and the victim’s cell phone.

The victim said he didn’t have any money and the suspects fled with his phone.

After responding to the call, deputies received a tip that the two men were spotted heading towards Orange Street.

Deputies were taken on a foot pursuit when they arrived to the location. Deputies caught 32-year-old Willie Mitchell Jr. He’s charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and probation violation.

Deputies are still searching for the second suspect.
