One more dry day before rain arrives on Sunday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dry, cool conditions will continue through Saturday. A Fire DANGER Statement is in effect this evening across parts of Middle and Eastern Georgia due to

low relative humidity and increasingly dry fuels. Tomorrow will bring increased upper level cloud cover and a transition to easterly/southeasterly winds. A upper level trough will transverse the Ohio/Tennessee River Valley on Saturday night, as high pressure across the Eastern Seaboard shifts east in response. Models depict a cold air damming wedge remaining in place across at least the eastern half of the coverage area overnight, which will keep a layer of colder air at the surface. Moisture ahead of the trough will support showers overnight. For northeast Georgia mountains, where overnight temps are forecast to be at freezing or a shade below, precip may begin as freezing rain. At this time, any accumulations would be light and mainly relegated to elevations of 2500 feet or higher. Starting Sunday, the forecast can be summed up as modestly wet. Several modest shortwaves over the next week will bring several rounds of rain showers Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday into Friday. Highs will remain moderate mostly highs reaching into the upper 60s. Lows will remain cool, dropping to the 30s and 40s for most.
