Officials Break Ground on New Bibb Fire Station

BIBB COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Fire Department is expanding with hopes of keeping insurance rates low for residents.

Friday morning, officials broke ground at Fire Station #111 just off of Jeffersonville Rd in east Bibb.

fireIt’ll be the 21st fire house in the entire county.

Fire Chief Marvin Riggins hopes the new facility will cut down on emergency response times, and improve fire safety in the community.

“We know that there is a time gap in between the second layer of emergency services protection in this area. So we wanted to enhance that. So this is coming to fruition about the strategic plan that we put in place several years ago,” Riggins said.

The new development is being paid for using penny sales tax dollars.

Fire Station #111 is expected to be complete in a little more than a year.

Riggins says the goal is to have two more stations built in Bibb County.
