Ocmulgee River rise forces temporary trail and boat ramp closures in Macon
Macon’s Parks and Beautification Department closes portions of Amerson River Park and Ocmulgee Heritage Trail

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Several outdoor areas along the Ocmulgee River will be closed beginning Tuesday, August 5, due to high water levels and safety concerns, the Parks and Beautification Department announced.
The following locations are affected:
-
Dirt trails around the pond in Amerson River Park
-
Paved trail between the Overlook and north boat ramp in Amerson River Park
-
Spring Street boat ramp and the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail
Public access to the river was already suspended Saturday, August 2, due to swift currents. All closures will remain in effect until the river level drops and any necessary cleanup is completed.
Visitors to Amerson River Park are encouraged to avoid marked-off areas as conditions may require additional closures in the coming days.
Safety remains top priority
“The Ocmulgee River continues to rise as the rain continues, and we want people to remain safe while enjoying,” said Michael Glisson, Parks & Beautification Director.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts the Ocmulgee River to exceed 20 feet by Wednesday.
