Ocmulgee National Park & Preserve Initiative making headway
The Initiative will present a bill before Congress within the coming weeks to propose the recognition of the Ocmulgee Mounds as a National Park.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Members of the Macon Rotary Club gathered at the First Presbyterian Church of Macon Monday, for an update on the progress of the Ocmulgee National Park & Preserve Initiative (ONPPI.)
Director of Advocacy for the Initiative, Tracie Revis, spoke of recent achievements strengthening the relationship between Macon-Bibb County and the Muscogee Creek Nation.
Revis says within the next few weeks, a bill will be presented to Congress to establish the Ocmulgee Mounds as Georgia’s first National Park and Preserve.
“The (Muscogee) Nation has been working with them to make sure the language of what we’re wanting to see in there from both sides; From the Bibb County and from this community for what it means here, but also for what it means for the (Muscogee) Nation,” said Revis.
Revis says having the Mounds recognized as a National Park, would help promote the history of the Muscogee Creek people, and bring more jobs and tourism dollars to middle Georgia.
