Ocmulgee DA Fred Bright retiring
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright is retiring.
He sent his letter of resignation to the Governor on Wednesday. Bright tells 41NBC he’s stepping down because he’s battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer that affects the immune system, and he’d like to focus on his health.
Bright served as the DA for Baldwin, Hancock, Jones, and Wilkinson Counties since 1994.
His last day is on August 31.
According to state law, his chief assistant, Stephen Bradley, will take over as interim DA unless the governor appoints someone else to the position.
