Nursing Home Woman Dies One Week After Being Treated For Smoke Inhalation
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One week after a fire started in a mechanical room at the Rosewood Nursing Center in East Macon, an 82 year old resident has died from smoke inhalation.
Coroner Leon Jones said Betty Smith passed away at 10:05p.m. Monday while in ICU at the Medical Center. He added this is a direct result from last week’s incident when smoke filtered into a wing of the nursing home through the air vents.
Macon-Bibb firefighters responded to the Rosewood Nursing Center on Finney Creek on Monday, March 25th. Responders were able to get the building clear of people in a short amount of time, but residents were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
