Nursing center coming to Central State Hospital campus
Crews were out leveling land Monday morning in preparation for a new nursing center. It’s the first time there’s been private construction on the campus in 170 years.
The center will provide 225 jobs to the area.
Leaders with the hospital’s redevelopment authority say opening up land to private businesses, while worth it, has been challenging.
“Surveying, for example. This has all been one big plot of land, so now we’re having to parcel it out. So just trying to figure out where property lines go,” Lauren Abis, the director of communications for the hospital’s redevelopment authority, said.
The CorrectLife Bostick Nursing Center will offer 280 beds for patients. The center will primarily cater to parolees who have a terminal illness, but are stuck in the state’s prison system with nowhere else to go.
