Northeast Raiders Take Their Talent To The Mercedez Benz Stadium For A Matchup Against Toombs County In Ghsa Class A Division I Championship Game

ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Northeast Raiders made it to the GHSA Class A Division One State Championship game for the first time in school history on Tuesday afternoon. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Raiders took on the 12-1 Toombs County Bulldogs. Northeast battled all game, but fell short of the first championship in Bibb County since 1975, when the Raiders lost to the Bulldogs 38-18. Northeast Head Coach Jeremy Wiggins spoke after the game about how proud he was of his team’s performance this season, and how the team can get better for next year.

“If you’re playing at the last week of school, then you are doing something right. We missed some opportunities during the game, and it cost us so, we’ll regroup, and come back in January, and look forward to coming back, and making another run for it” said Wiggins Tuesday after the game. “Obviously you want the number one trophy, but you know, you come this far, you work so hard, you put in something, you come with it when you know its taken runner up, so this will just help us motivate us for next year for the younger guys, and try to make another run for the next two years. They did nothing wrong. Leave it out on the field, give all the glory to God no one got hurt from no team, getting behind them with the support.”

Coach Wiggins went onto speak about how it feels to make not only school history, but Bibb County history on the East Side as well. “We didn’t play our best and missed some opportunities man, but we are so grateful to be here for this opportunity to showcase what we did this year. It feels good. We just want to build off this history and continue to start a tradition. We look forward to going to work in January.”

Congratulations to the Northeast Raiders on a tremendously historic season.
