No. 34 GC Women’s Tennis Releases Spring Schedule

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The No. 34 Georgia College women’s tennis team and head coach Steve Barsby have announced the team’s 2014 spring schedule, featuring nine nationally-ranked opponents and 11 home matches.

The season starts on the road Feb. 4 at Fort Valley State University in non-conference action. Georgia College’s home opener comes three days later, Friday, Feb. 7 against Albany State University.

The Bobcats begin Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play at defending National Champion No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State University Feb. 12. The Bobcats close out February with “Battle for the Pickle Barrel” rivalry points on the line at No. 5 Columbus State University Sunday, Feb. 23.

The month of March begins with five home contests, starting with a PBC match against Flagler College March 2 and ending with a non-conference battle against Ferris State University March 14.

Later that month, the Bobcats square off with No. 39 University of Central Oklahoma and No. 7 University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla. for Georgia College’s annual spring break trip.

March is bursting at the seams with 12 matches, finishing the way it starts, with a streak of home bouts against Brenau University, No. 32 Young Harris College and the University of North Georgia.

April features four more matches, ending with Senior Day for three-year starter Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) Sunday, April 13 against Lander University.

This year’s Peach Belt Championships will be held April 17-19 at No. 12 Francis Marion University. The Bobcats will look to improve upon last season’s fourth-place finish.
