No. 34 GC Women’s Tennis Drops Road Match at No. 16 Valdosta State, 8-1

VALDOSTA, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The No. 34 Georgia College women’s tennis squad (1-1) managed a win at second doubles and took three singles matches to the distance, but fell for the first time this season at No. 16 Valdosta State University (1-0), 8-1 Saturday.

The Bobcat point came in second doubles, as Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) and Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) stayed undefeated on the season by edging Jessica Tuggle and Moriah Hibbard 8-5. The win was Krupp’s 20th in doubles action at Georgia College, and Marevic’s 30th.

Freshmen Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Hannah Serdinia (Suwannee, Ga.) gave Sabrina Schmidt and Jennifer Rink a run for their money at third singles, falling 8-6. Macy Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bordeaux, France) dropped the first flight doubles bout 8-3 to Michelle Fischer and Juliana Boehm.

With Georgia College down 2-1 after doubles, Valdosta State nabbed wins in third, sixth and then fifth singles to clinch the team victory.

Marevic lost to Laura Ubeda in the third slot 6-1, 6-0. Krupp then dropped a shutout to Joanna Lario and Boehm clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-2 effort over Serdinia.

The remaining three bouts went three sets each. Macy Polk responded well to a tough first set, but lost to Fischer in the first slot 6-0, 4-6, 10-7. Clausse-Pujo also took the middle set from Rink in a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 loss. Cristalei Polk was the lone Bobcat to take the first set in singles, falling to Schmidt 3-6, 6-4, 10-3.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier, as the Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m., traveling to defending National Champion Armstrong Atlantic State University.
