Nine dead in San Antonio after suspected human smuggling

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (41NBC/WMGT) -Nine people died in a tractor trailer full of people on Saturday. Police say they were victims of human smuggling.

The truck was discovered in a Walmart parking lot in San Antonio. Temperatures outside were over 100 degrees. The air conditioning was not on inside the truck.

After one person climbed out of the truck and begged for water, someone called 911.

Police found 38-people inside, eight were dead. The others were rushed to the hospital, where one person later died.

A 60-year-old man from Florida is in federal custody in connection with the case.
