MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The annual “Night to Unite” event is being held in Macon-Bibb County on Tuesday. The event aims to promote the message of neighbors joining together to combat crime in the community.
Gloria Jordan, a Macon resident and former teacher, says community unity is important when it comes to addressing crime. She spoke about the need for increased community centers for youth to provide them with positive places to gather, beyond just sports activities like football and basketball.
“We really need to get in their head,” she said. “I know it’s hard because I’m a retired teacher. It’s very hard.”
Elricia Smith, the coordinator of the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center, encouraged community members to report any suspicious activities they may witness.
“If you see something early on, it looks suspicious, go ahead and report so someone can check it out,” she said.
The event encourages residents to unite against crime by spending the day with neighbors, deputies, local government officials and firefighters. Here is a full list of events and locations throughout Macon- Bibb County.
