MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Nearly 200 employees at Nichiha USA’s Macon facility are losing their jobs after the company announced it will close Plant One, which manufactures residential products.

The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority says workforce development partners are prepared to support those impacted by the layoffs. Nichiha USA says the decision follows a thorough review of its long-term business priorities and future competitiveness.

Stephen Adams, the executive director of the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, explained that Macon’s economy is closely tied to international business and that the closure reflects national developments such as tariffs.

Despite the shutdown of Plant One, Plant Two—which focuses on commercial structures—will remain operational. Nichiha plans to accelerate its expansion in the commercial sector and has said it will provide support to individuals directly affected by the transition.

After meeting with company officials, Adams expressed optimism about Nichiha’s continued presence in Macon.

“Macon has been more than just a place of business,” said Takayuki Okada, President & CEO of Nichiha USA. “It has been a true home for the company, our employees, and their families. While this decision was extremely difficult, it is necessary to build a stronger foundation for long-term success. Nichiha USA remains committed to being a responsible corporate citizen in Macon-Bibb County for many years to come.”
