NewTown Macon President, CEO dead at 42

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The President and CEO of NewTown Macon died on Sunday from a cardiac emergency, according to Coroner Leon Jones.

42-year-old Josh Rogers collapsed while jogging on Second Street in Downtown Macon. A passerby performed CPR and EMS and fire department were notified about the incident.

Rogers was pronounced dead after 5 p.m. at the hospital. Coroner Leon Jones said the autopsy will be on November 26.

Rogers became President and CEO of NewTown Macon in April of 2014.

NewTown Macon released the following statement:

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of NewTown Macon’s visionary leader, Josh Rogers, on Sunday evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

“Josh Rogers’ outstanding leadership of NewTown Macon has been a major factor in the amazing revitalization of downtown Macon over the past decade,” said Mercer University President William D. Underwood, who chairs NewTown Macon’s Board of Directors. “I am so proud of what he has accomplished. His untimely death is a shock to all of us who knew and worked with him through the years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Meaghan, his children, Jack and Ellie, and the rest of his family.”

NewTown Macon added “While we grieve this tremendous loss, NewTown Macon remains steadfast in our commitment to honoring Josh’s legacy. We will carry forward his vision, ensuring that the momentum he created continues to propel our community forward.”
