MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A program will allow dog influencers and their owners to promote local businesses to new audiences.

As part of the program, called Hype Hounds Approved, NewTown Macon says participating businesses that allow dogs to come inside or sit in outdoor patio areas will be given sidewalk decals and window clings before the end of July.

The program will cost participating businesses $25 per year.

Emily Hopkins, the vice president of external affairs for NewTown Macon, says the popularity of dogs in the area provides a opportunity for growth in downtown Macon.

“Downtown Macon has about as many dog residents as we have human residents,” Hopkins said. “There are a little over 1,000 people that live downtown and about as many dogs. We know that people love their pets and they love their dogs, so we wanted to get them involved with helping promote the story and message of downtown as a destination and all of the wonderful locally owned businesses we have in downtown Macon.”

Hopkins added that many businesses are interested in the program and continue to apply. If you own a business in downtown Macon and are interested in applying, click here: https://ntmacon.wufoo.com/forms/z1ic3ejy0x82tjg/
