MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Four new businesses have opened in downtown Macon, providing a boost to the local economy and creating new jobs. NewTown Macon, which supports and promotes local businesses, says the openings are part of an ongoing effort to boost economic growth.

“$68 out of every $100 spent at local businesses continues to circulate throughout our local economy,” NewTown Macon’s Vice President of External Affairs Emily Hopkins said.

The new businesses have created approximately 20-25 jobs, according to Hopkins.

“The thing about our locally owned and operated businesses is that they do create jobs,” she said. “They create new opportunities for people in Macon, and they’re owned and operated by locals who are invested in this community and creating their own financial opportunity for themselves by opening and starting a new business.”

Abigail Johnson opened The Vintage Thread on Second Street on July 19. Johnson says the downtown location is ideal for her business’s growth and success.

“This little corner spot was perfect,” she said. “We were looking for some more foot traffic to expose our business and give Macon something they didn’t have with vintage arrivals, new arrivals, retail, unique vintage finds, kind of mixing and matching.”
