NewTown Macon celebrates 2024 Great American Main Street Award

There will be new housing, new businesses and new hotels in Downtown Macon.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – NewTown Macon has been awarded the 2024 Great American Main Street Award.

Emily Hopkins, Vice President of External Affairs and Main Street Macon Manager at NewTown Macon, says this award is the highest honor that is given out by Main Street America.

The award recognizes comprehensive downtown revitalization. Hopkins says this award is about Macon pulling together and creating a vision.

“We built a plan, we implemented it, and we did it for Macon,” says Hopkins.

Hopkins says that Maconites can expect to see Macon grow in the future. There will be new housing, new businesses and new hotels in Downtown Macon.

“The word is getting out that Macon is an incredible community whether you want to live here or you want to be a visitor,” says Hopkins. “All eyes are on Macon right now so we hope that the community will help us continue to spread that message and really show that our revitalization story is very distinct.”
