New Way to Bank in Middle Georgia

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – American Pride Bank in Macon is teaming up with nearly 150 community banks and credit unions around the country to take on the megabanks.

The bank is doing it with a new program called Kasasa.

Kasasa is a brand of free checking and savings accounts that uses high interest rates and more cash back. According to georgiacreditunion.org, almost 33 percent of Georgians have no savings at all.

41 NBC spoke with American Pride Bank C-E-O John Hall and Lisa Fussell, a customer who uses Kasasa, they weighed in on that fact, and what the benefits are.

“I think Kasasa can help turn that corner because Kasasa products do pay high interest and rewards that are appealing to customers which can hopefully entice them to increase their savings,” Hall said.

Fussell then said, “I wanted to see how much interest I made and I said oh my gosh I made money while I’ve been spending money and that has been awesome.”

Hall told me that since the introduction of Kasasa about three months ago, he’s seen an increase in customers.

And he believes that people will turn more to community banks to avoid low interest rates with their savings and checking accounts.
