New Town Macon Inc. Buys Former Capricorn Records Building
New Town Macon Inc. closed on the purchase of the former Capricorn Records Building on the 400 block of Martin Luther King Blvd. in downtown Macon.
On Friday, New Town Macon purchased the building with a 300-thousand dollar grant from Peyton Anderson. The plan for the building is a total renovation that includes bringing back Capricorn Records to the facility, designing a museum, and possibly creating lofts.
Mike Ford of New Town Macon says they hope to get construction projects underway soon and will be taking bids to fix the roof and other structure needs. The total cost of the entire renovation will be 1.4 million dollars. Ford says this project will benefit the downtown area and the Music Hall of Fame.
“It will assist us in building a partnership with the Music Hall of Fame, using this recording studio for events and complimentary programs for the Music Hall of Fame,” said Ford.
Mr. Ford also said New Town Macon plans to raise funds for the renovation by putting on a state and national campaign.
