New Technology to Prevent Water Breaks in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There is a new wave of technology for the Macon Water Authority (MWA).

The business says their ‘Water Loss Prevention Program’ detects water accidents before they happen.

Distribution manager of MWA Darryl Macy says the new technology monitors water pipes throughout Macon-Bibb notifying their software system of any issues.

“We’ve been asked to look at the loss of water in our system, and where it’s going. This technology allows us to track 30 different places every night to find out if we have leaks in our system, and how good the system is doing,” says Macy.

Executive director Toni Rojas says last year the company spent the almost $400,000 cleaning up a main breaks downtown.

He adds with the new technology, the MWA can decrease “real loss”, which is wasted water.

“We’re taking a proactive approach…rather than being reactive,” says Rojas.

According to Macy, the company plans to invest more than $130,000 in 200 more leak detection devices.
