New Survey: Recession Prompted Americans to Change Energy Habits

“We found that 75% of consumers today turn off lights, even for a brief period of time in order to save electricity,” said Greg Aliff of Deloitte U.S. Energy & Resources.

A Deloitte survey of three-thousand consumers across the country found most taking other energy-saving steps like lower thermostats in winter and higher in summer.

But the survey found these steps are more about conserving cash than conserving energy.

During the recession, people latched on to the idea that saving energy, saves money and they’re sticking to it.

And it’s not just electricity.

Just like in 2008, when gas prices go up, driving goes down.

In fact, service stations report gas sales are off three-percent so far this year.
