New senior housing development opens in East Macon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new senior housing development officially opened it’s doors Friday morning.
The Hunt School Village was in the works for a few years. It used to be Henry A. Hunt Elementary School before it closed it’s doors in 2003. As the years went by, it fell into disrepair and then considered blight. Until the county decided to make use of the building and restored it.
It is now a gated community, with 60 units, for people who are 62 and older.
One of the residents, Terry White, is alumni from Hunt and now a resident.
“We’ve got a lot of nice stuff here now that folks can enjoy, you know, that’s retired and stuff,” said White. “It’s real nice.”
The $12 million village is the first family senior development in East Macon, in more than 20 years. Several different organizations contributed to the funding and renovations.
