New Peach Regional Medical Center Almost Complete

BYRON, Georgia (41 NBC) – Peach County’s new medical center in Byron has been in the works for the past 12 years and is set to open on June 13.

Nancy Peed, CEO of Peach Regional Medical Center, says the current building, that’s been used for the past 50 years, has been holding progress back from a growing community.

“The thing that really made this possible was our partnership with Central Georgia Health System, their belief in our project, and the vision we have for the community,” Peed said. “They were able to help us with the capital need to fund that project.”

The concept for a new facility began 12 years ago and couldn’t have been completed without some help.

The $27 million project broke ground almost a year ago and is ahead of schedule.

The new state-of-the-art facility will provide medical professionals with effective and efficient products and equipment. It will also include much larger emergency and operating rooms. There is even room for another operating room in the future.

Elbert McQueen, Vice President of the Central Georgia Health System, believes the medical center will bring jobs to the area.

“This will allow them to bring in some additional physicians and staff and growth and we just think this is going to be a very positive thing for Peach County,” McQueen said. “We think probably within the first month after we open we will employ about 164 full time employees and projected to go onto to 240-250 in the next several years.”
