New mural painting in progress in downtown Macon to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"That's a pretty monumental thing that Martin Luther King was here," artist Kevin Scene Lewis said.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A work of art is underway as a new mural is currently being painted in downtown Macon.
The mural is of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It’s located at 1410 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful commissioned Kevin Scene Lewis, who goes by Scene Lewis as his artist name, for the work. He’s the same artist who created and fixed the John Lewis Mural in Warner Robins when it was vandalized in June. Lewis and his son, Kevin Lewis III, have been working on the new mural to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“I think it’s really important for the citizens of Macon just to know the history and, that’s a pretty monumental thing that Martin Luther King was here,” Lewis said. “He did his last speech here, right before Memphis, that dreadful day in Memphis. So it’s important, I think.”
Lewis is thankful they were able to paint mural there and says he loves painting murals all over Macon and other areas. He says it’s an opportunity for the people and community to learn and to make things feel and look better.
The building is owned by Brandon Harris.
A finished reveal of the mural will be this Friday, September 13.
