New Middle Georgia Airline Debuts with Inaugural Flight to Orlando

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia’s newest airline is taking to the sky.

“I think its going to be an exciting time for Macon and Middle Georgia.” Macon Mayor Robert Reichert said.

Silver Airways is your ticket from Middle Georgia to the heart of Florida. The airline kicked off its services Thursday with an inaugural flight to Orlando. Macon city leaders met with their counterparts from Orlando to celebrate the new connection.

“We’re thrilled to have everybody here. I think its going to be a great, great partnership,” Jim Gray, City of Orlando commissioner, said.

Of course Orlando’s biggest draw is tourism, but officials say this new service will also highlight other aspects the land of Mickey Mouse has to offer.

“The big key especially in this area is our medical center. We have what we call Medical City that I think will with what’s going on in Macon with the healthcare world and hopefully we can get some synergies there between the two communities,” Gray said.

“We also have a very strong business segment that is growing over the years and we think the connection of the business and the theme parks is going to pull more and more traffic,” Jim Rose with the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority said.

The new flight also offers more options when it comes to traveling. Instead of flying out of Atlanta, you can make your connections in Orlando.

“I don’t think people realize how much service there is out of Orlando because it is such a magnet for travel. There are an incredible number of destinations,” Mickey Bowman with Silver Airways said.

So whether Orlando is your destination or just a pit stop along the way, the hope is you will go Silver.

41NBC’s Amanda Castro was a passenger on the inaugural flight and describes it as very smooth and enjoyable. The plane seats 34 people comfortably and it only took an hour and 15 minutes to get to Orlando. As an extra bonus, you don’t have to pay to park your car overnight at the Middle Georgia Airport. Ticket prices are comparable to flights out of Atlanta so officials are hoping you won’t have any excuse to not choose Silver Airways.
