New Macon State College President Wants College, Community To Come Together And Stimulate Economy

He’s a mathematician, a chemist, and a music man.

Dr. Jeff Allbritten is has many talents, but his passion is helping students achieve their goals. As the new president of Macon State College, he wants the school to get more involved with local businesses so students can get jobs and stimulate the economy in Middle Georgia.

“We’ll align our resources with community needs; a rising tide lifts all boats,” says Allbritten. “That’s really what my goal is–to be able to find ways to partner with business and industry and bring them on to the college campuses; it’s amazing what can happen when you start sort of a synergistic effect of getting entities together at a table.

As someone who’s rubbed shoulders with big names and served as president of Collier County Campus in Florida, Dr. Allbritten says he’s ready to put Macon State in the hearts and minds of people in the community.

“What I’d like to do here is find ways to leverage people who really want to invest in the institution, we have to give them a reason to–we have to show them that we are worth investing in,” he says.

Dr. Albritten says he hopes to make Macon State College a first choice for many college-bound students around Middle Georgia.

“The main thing is to get people out here to the campus to see what a gem this is. To see what they have in their own community and to take advantage of it.”
