New lofts, restaurant being built in Perry

"Downstairs will be a restaurant and upstairs will be three lofts"

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Perry will soon be home to new loft apartments and a restaurant.

Meredith Lockerman says she noticed the empty lot on Commerce Street and thought something unique should go there. A year and a half later, she had the idea for what will be known as The Commodore. Lockerman and her husband visit downtown Macon for weekend getaways and thought Perry should have something similar.

“Downstairs will be a restaurant and upstairs will be three lofts,” Lockerman said.  “So there’s two one bedroom lofts and one two bedroom loft. The one up front is the two bedroom and it’s got a balcony up front too.”

They’re working to find a restaurant to go in the downstairs space. The lofts upstairs will be short term rentals. People will be able to rent them through Air BnB and VRBO once the building is finished. They’re also making the “Perrydise Pathway” part of the building. It’s a brick walkway where people can buy a brick, and have their name engraved on it. Lockerman says it’s a huge hit so far.

“You can engrave your brick in Perrydise Pathway and have a good little photo op for your date night or whatever,” Lockerman said.

Cheri Goodman, the manager for Acres & Oak Kitchen in Perry, says she heard about he Commodore project and thinks it will bring more people downtown.

“I think the more people that we can bring to the downtown area the better off we’ll all be,” Goodman said. “We look to serve, so to meet new people and serve new people, we’re excited about it.”

Lockerman says she’s excited to bring the concept to Perry.

“I love to take the kids to go to dinner where it’s got an outdoor section and kid friendly,” Lockerman said. “But then again I love to go somewhere just with my husband as well for a date night, and so we saw what was happening in Perry and we just wanted to be apart of it.

Building construction will take around seven months. If you would like to buy a brick for the Perrydise Pathway, visit the Commodore website.
