New Juvenile Courthouse in Bibb County Could Break Ground In Summer

Bibb County could break ground on a new juvenile courthouse as early as this summer.

Chief Administrative Officer, Steve Layson, says this project is a top priority for the commissioners. They believe it’s important to keep kids away from adult offenders when they come to the courthouse to be tried for juvenile crimes. Layson says the county is looking forward to getting this project started.

“So it’s a project we’re almost ready to pull the trigger on, and we’re moving forward with it, and we’re excited about it. The commissioners labeled this as one of their priorities to get done.”

The plans began more than three years ago, and the land was purchased. The only way the project could begin was if the SPLOST passed. The courthouse is set to be built on the corner of Hawthorne St. and Second St. in Downtown Macon.
