New evidence released in CEO murder case shows “survival kit,” maps and cash tied to suspect Luigi Mangione

(CNN)- Newly released evidence from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is shedding light on what accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione was allegedly carrying at the time of his arrest — and prosecutors say the items point to a potentially premeditated crime.

Among the evidence are photographs of a handwritten note resembling a shopping list, detailing items such as a USB drive, digital camera, hot meal, water bottle, and trash bags. Investigators also documented a hand-drawn map of Altoona, Pennsylvania, where Mangione was ultimately arrested, along with a separate “to-do list” containing the words “survival kit.”

Authorities say they also recovered clothing, a pocket knife, zip ties, and a Greyhound bus ticket from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh — scheduled to arrive the same night UnitedHealthcare CEO was killed. Additional photos show a Visa gift card, a single-ride Metro ticket, and a USB drive prosecutors say Mangione wore around his neck.

Last week, the DA’s office also released images of Mangione’s computer, along with thousands of dollars in cash — including what appears to be foreign currency from Asia.

Legal analysts say the release of this evidence is notable, given that much of the hearing has been conducted out of public view. Defense attorneys had argued that disclosing information that might later be excluded at trial could taint the potential jury pool.

Mangione’s defense team is seeking to suppress several pieces of evidence, including the alleged murder weapon, claiming he was questioned before being read his rights.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty to both federal and state murder charges.
