New Emergency Sirens Scheduled to Activate in Monroe County

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Monroe County EMA is warning residents that they will test the newly installed outdoor warning sirens today.

The sirens will go off in Culloden, High Falls State Park, Juliette, and the Monroe County Recreation Complex beginning at noon if the weather permits.

According to the news release, once the sirens are activated, residents in the area will hear a loud wailing sound that will stretch for a mile and a half.

Officials say there is no need to be alarmed.

In the future, the Monroe County EMA plans on keeping each community informed on sirens, the reasons for activations, and what residents should do when the sirens are activated by hosting town hall meetings.
