New Company Coming to Sandersville Will Bring Dozens of Jobs
SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – A California biofuels company is coming to Middle Georgia and it is expected to invest millions of dollars and brings dozens of jobs.
Governor Nathan Deal announced Tuesday that General Biofuels Georgia plans to open a plant in Sandersville off Waco Drive. The plant will make wood pellets to sell to a major European utility company to use as an alternative energy source.
“We are committed to making Georgia the number one place in the nation in which to do business and a central plank in our strategy is to boost the manufacturing sector,” Deal said in a statement. “Our state is uniquely equipped to help manufacturers compete globally and efficiently meet the needs of the customers.”
The biofuels company is investing $60 million and creating 35 jobs. Sandersville Mayor Jimmy Andrews says this is a great opportunity for the city and its residents.
“We’re very excited,” Mayor Andrews said. “Everything is stable around here now but in the past few years there’s been a decline in the kaolin industry so this is a blessing for us.”
Ground breaking is expected sometime in the next few months. The biofuels company hopes the plant will be up and running by 2014.
