New Berry Oakley Suite Opens at Allman Brothers Museum

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Big House museum opened a new exhibit Tuesday to honor one of the families who lived in the home during the Allman Brothers’ heyday.

Museum goers will now get a sneak peak into the lives of Berry and Linda Oakely and their daughter Brittany. The new Berry Oakely suite is an exact remodel of their bedrooms which features actual possessions belonging to the Oakley’s, such as the dress Brittany wore on the “Brothers and Sisters” album cover.

Museum officials say this exhibit showcases the Oakely’s dedication to family.

“Berry and Linda were very much all about family which was a sentiment the entire band, roadies, and everybody embraced,” Linda McLendon, the executive director of The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House, said. “You always heard people talk about the Allman Brothers family, being a member of the family. It really kind of resonated from their dedication to each other and to their child Brittany.”

Linda and Brittany helped with the exhibit. Other featured items include Berry’s clothing and a never before heard interview with the bass player.

The museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, students, and military, and free for children five and under.
