New Academic Themes for Dublin Charter Schools
Beginning in August, some middle Georgia families will see a change in the school system.
Dublin City Schools will “officially” open it’s doors as a charter school system this fall.
Superintendent Dr. Chuck Ledbetter says, “We’re going to have three academically themed K5 schools…”
The themes will include “leadership,” “math and science,” and “talented arts.”
However, every school will have the same academic guidelines.
“We’ll still be basing our curriculum on the Georgia Performance Standards,” said teacher Carol Thomas.
Charter schools can waive some of the rules set by the state, in exchange for performing at a higher level.
“It also allows more community input because we have more community members on governing boards at the schools that actually make decisions at the school level,” according to Ledbetter.
There will be a total of 6 charter schools in the system.
