MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s National Travel and Tourism Week, and Visit Macon is celebrating with a week of events, discounts and free gear!

On Tuesday, more than 100 people gathered at Luther Williams Field to receive complimentary “Macon, Georgia” license plates and catch a glimpse of the Macon Bacon baseball team’s practice ahead of the 2024 season opener.

“It’s Travel and Tourism Week, but it’s also Opening week for Macon Bacon Baseball,” Marisa Rodgers, the Director of Marketing at Visit Macon, said. “So the first game is Friday out of town, the first home game of Saturday, complete with opening night fireworks, so we decided to have it here. And basically, you can come get a license plate, but also stock up on Macon merch here.”

Festivities continue on Wednesday and Thursday. The community is invited to come out to the Downtown Visitors Center for a chance to indulge in free sweet treats and enter a drawing to win a Macon swag bag, and on Friday and Saturday, there will be guided van tours in the “Soul Sights Van Tours of Macon.”
