National Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta Takes Members of Warner Robins Back to Latin Roots

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – National Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off with a major fiesta at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

More than 350 church and community members showed up to celebrate with song, dance and plenty of Latino dishes.

Countries like: Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Columbia, Costa Rico and Mexico represented the nationalities of Hispanics living in middle Georgia. Tables were set with each country’s flag, decorations, nation flowers and foods.

Hispanic coordinator for Sacred Heart Church, Sandra Molina, says the festival is an Independence Day celebration every Latino can be proud of.

“It’s very exciting. We’re celebrating our culture, our traditions, our roots, our heritage,” says Molina.

Jose Romero is an immigrant from Mexico, and says he will make celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month tradition for him, and his family.

“It’s really important to me, because my daughters were born in the United States. I’d like to show them the celebration from Mexico, because they don’t go to Mexico a lot,” Romero says, “So, I just want to show them how we celebrate this month in the United States.”

Molina says this holiday observes a rich culture, and community.

“We are Hispanic. We are Latinos…trying to maintain our families, trying to succeed,” Molina says.
