Naming Ceremony Held for Elmo Richardson Macon-Bibb Fire Station

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new fire station now bears the name of a former Bibb County Commissioner.

Elmo Richardson junior was honored today, as Macon-Bibb County Fire Station # 109, was renamed the Elmo Richardson fire station.

Richardson has served as District III Bibb County Commissioner for 10 years.  Monday, his colleagues spoke of his outstanding accomplishments, during the Elmo Richardson Fire Station naming Ceremony.

“Elmo served as chairman of the engineering department and he also served as chairman of finance and in both of those areas he provided a tremendous amount of advice and council,” says Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart.

Hart says even though Richardson has served as a county commissioner from 2002 through 2012, he actually has served the community for more than 20 years.

The Macon-Bibb County Fire Station 109 opened in July, on New Forsyth Road in Macon. Fire Chief, Marvin Riggins says Richardson Played a vital role in building it.

“He was very, very, instrumental in us solidifying a location for this,” says Chief Riggins. “We looked for months and months and months, for different properties that were, benefit what we needed as far as the location, of the fire station that had very great access.”

Richardson says he teared up during the ceremony thinking about how special the dedication ceremony was for him, as well as  his family.

“The firefighters of Bibb County have a special place with us,” says Richardson. “My family having experienced two fires in our life. It’s a real special honor and I’m very appreciative of the commissioners doing this.”
