NAACP Swears in New President and Announces Education Program

The NAACP Chapter in Macon and BibbCounty is now under new leadership.  The president, David Booker, was sworn in Monday at the NAACP headquarters, along with several officers.

 The new president wants to promote peace throughout the community.

“We’re gonna be knockin on doors, talking to people in their houses about their issues and how we can help them better themselves within the perimeter of what they have to work with,” said Booker.

Black History Month starts next week and to celebrate the NAACP is teaming up with Bibb county schools to help raise test scores.  The group has adopted five schools to work with those students to increase Adequate Yearly Progress.  The program will include four hours of tutoring for each student involved, a book program, transportation and a meal.
