MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Museum of Arts and Sciences is hosting Train Talks, where they take you inside their on-site caboose and teach you about various things related to it and its history.

“So, behind me is our caboose and my big project during my internship was to do research on the caboose and open it up for train talks for the public to see,” summer intern Madelyn Koehler said. “We’ve had the caboose since 1964, and it’s had a couple of renovations over the years, and I’m excited to show everyone the inside and help others learn about it and its importance to Georgia.”

We asked her if the caboose has always been here.

“It’s been in this exact spot since 1964,” she said. “It was moved down to the terminal station downtown and then moved here on a crane and it’s been here ever since.”

She also spoke about what she discusses during the talks.

“I go for a brief history of when it was built and for who and then I explain a lot of the advantages and disadvantages of living on the caboose, as well as just some of my favorite features from the inside, like the stove and the cupola,” she said.

If you you couldn’t catch the first few talks, more are on the schedule, including one on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

More remaining dates (all 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.):

  • Thursday, August 8
  • Thursday, August 15
  • Friday, August 16
  • Saturday, August 17
