MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – New paintings were put on display in the lobby of the Museum of Arts and Sciences. The exhibit was created in recognition of National Cancer Survivors Month and the artwork was made by survivors who took Piedmont Macon’s Creative Healing Class.

According to a news release, the free class is offered every other month and was specifically designed for cancer survivors, to explore creativity, embrace fellowship, and find comfort in self-expression.

“It’s just fun. It’s something very different than anything I’ve ever done before, and I look forward to it. I’m always excited when the little invite comes in the mail and when we get there, we don’t even know what we’re painting yet, so who knows? It’s just fun,” said Tina Luichinger one of the Breast Cancer Survivors.

“It’s nice because I don’t know a lot of people that have had it. So it’s really nice to meet a bunch of ladies that have gone through it at different stages,” she continued.

“I’m just so glad you offered this class because it has given her such joy, and for each woman, they go through so much. It’s, you know, such a terrible experience, to turn around and do something beautiful like this. So thank you,” Debbie Harrelson, a friend of Tina Luichinger, said while speaking to Piedmont staff.

Luichinger says all of the paintings on display were made by breast cancer survivors and that the painting of the ocean and starfish is her masterpiece.

You can see the paintings today and tomorrow and while admiring it you can also learn about Piedmont’s various programs and screenings.
