Murder Suspect Arrested in Death of 87-Year-Old Macon Woman
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Police announced Tuesday night a suspect is in custody and charged in the murder of 87-year-old Christine Cook.
Police arrested 31-year-old Aurie Bonner, III. He was taken to the Bibb County jail Tuesday night just before 9 pm. This is his third arrest dating back to 1998.
“Why did you do it?” 41 NBC’s Amanda Castro asked while Bonner during the perp walk. “Did you know Ms. Cook?” Bonner did not answer.
Cook was found suffocated in her home on General Lee Road in Macon last Thursday. Officers say the home had been broken into.
The investigation is still ongoing and officials can’t release much information, but did say there could be more charges on the way.
“I am happy at this point that we have a resolution at this point, that someone’s in custody,” Bibb County District Attorney Greg Winters said. “We’ll be meeting tomorrow to discuss what any other addition charges may be coming forth.”
Macon police credit several local law enforcement agencies with helping them catch the man they say killed Cook, including the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, and Warner Robins and Perry Police Departments.
