MPD Warn New Year Celebrators ‘Celebratory Gunfire’ is Illegal
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – While you’re out celebrating the New Year Monday night, Macon police will be keeping an eye and hear out for celebratory gunfire.
MPD says it is illegal and very dangerous. A celebratory bullet is a stray bullet that ultimately lands somewhere, endangering everyone in the immediate area. There have been cases where people have been killed by stray bullets from this type of activity.
MPD officers will be patrolling for any evidence of discharging weapons. If caught, you will be arrested immediately.
In 2010, a DeKalb County boy was killed while he sat next to his mother in church. A stray bullet from a New Year’s party came through the roof and landed on top of his head.
