Morning Business Report: Many pizza places offering deals to celebrate Pi Day

(LILAMAX) — The threat of a government shutdown appears to be over.

Senator Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, has announced he will vote in favor of the House financing measure. Schumer echoed the concerns of other Senate Democrats, warning that a shutdown would give President Trump and the GOP more leeway to push for federal cuts.

In Washington, the U.S. Postal Service announced it will cut its workforce by 10,000 jobs, with the layoffs set to take place soon.

Oracle is now the leading contender to help run TikTok in a potential sale. The New York Post reports that President Trump has until April 5th to find a buyer for the app. Critics have accused TikTok of being a tool for espionage and propaganda for the Chinese Communist Party, and its U.S. division is on track for sale.

Stocks continued their decline, with the NASDAQ down 14% from its recent peak. The Dow is on pace for its worst week since June 2022.

The sell-off was driven in part by renewed tariff talks. President Trump escalated threats in response to retaliatory EU tariffs, warning that the U.S. would impose 200% trade taxes on European wine and liquor. Products such as Tennessee whiskey, California almonds, and Michigan-made rearview mirrors could be severely impacted by a decline in sales in the European market.

In lighter news, restaurant chains across the U.S. are offering deals on pies and pizzas in celebration of Pi Day (3/14). Many national pizza chains and local pizzerias are hosting specials today.
