More Than A Hundred Food Lion Grocery Stores Closing
Supermarket chain Delhaize is closing more than a hundred Food Lion grocery stores nationwide. Four of those closings will be in middle Georgia. According to Food Lion’s website, the stores on Thomaston Road, Moody Road, Watson Boulevard, and Houston Road will be closing as soon as possible. Some of the customers that shop at the Food Lion store on Houston Road say it was the stores location and food prices that kept them coming back. Around 140 employees from the 4 middle Georgia stores combined are expected to loss their jobs.
“I do feel for these people losing their jobs and there is no work here in middle Georgia that I’ve seen, so I don’t know how they are going to do it,” said shopper Walter Ruff.
CEO of Delhaize America says, “We believe these actions will enable us to better serve our customers in our markets with high density, while positioning the company for future growth.
A total of 29 stores will be closing in Georgia. All affected stores will close within 30 days.
