More Than 150 Donate Blood at MGSC Health Expo

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgians donated more than 150 units of blood at an annual health expo Tuesday in Warner Robins.

Students at Middle Georgia State College once again teamed up with the American Red Cross for this day-long event.

More than 400 people showed up for the festivities.  There were several vendors there, including Crossfit, which is gaining nationwide popularity.

Inside, volunteers rolled up their sleeves to give blood. Organizer Chris Tsavatewa says the number of donors this year went up in the wake of last week’s tragedies in Boston and Texas.

“This event is a service learning project with our health communications class,” says Tsavatewa, assistant professor at MGSC.  “They work with the American Red Cross; the students learn a little bit.  They get to utilize some of the skills developed in the curriculum from health administration. They get something out of it and the organization gets something out of it, so tt’s a great opportunity for us to partner with them.”

If you weren’t able to make the expo but would still like to give blood, the American Red Cross is always in need and there are plenty of opportunities in the near future.
